Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney

Kansas City, MO | Missouri License Required, Kansas License Preferred

A growing and well-established law firm in the Kansas City area is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join its expanding practice. This position offers substantial responsibility, direct client exposure, a manageable billable hour expectation, and a lucrative bonus structure for attorneys seeking both professional growth and work-life balance.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2-5 years of workers' compensation litigation experience and be licensed to practice in Missouri. Dual licensure in Missouri and Kansas is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a caseload of workers' compensation defense matters
• Handle all aspects of litigation from inception through resolution
• Take and defend depositions
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
• Communicate and negotiate with opposing counsel
• Attend hearings, mediations, and court appearances
• Provide strategic legal counsel to clients and carriers
• Maintain significant file responsibility with minimal supervision

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active Missouri bar license required
• Kansas bar license preferred
• Minimum of 2-5 years of workers' compensation litigation experience
• Strong written advocacy, oral communication, and case management skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues
• Willingness and ability to travel by car throughout Missouri and Kansas as needed and appear in the Kansas City area when required

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive base salary ranging from approximately $80,000-$140,000, commensurate with experience
